LCGC Members,

    We held our Club Championship this past weekend at Lake Chabot and the competition was both spirited and friendly. We witnessed the game being played at a very high level by John Doyle and Mike Collins, both of whom have playing at Lake Chabot since they were kids. JD shot an excellent opening round 73 with Collins right on his heels with an equally impressive 74. Day two arrived and they both continued playing well, paired in the same group. JD slowly built a four stroke lead through the middle of the round but Collins quickly evened the match over the next few holes. Heading to 17 all tied up, JD again regained the lead with a solid par on the windy uphill par three. After both players put their tee shots in the fairway at the narrow 18th hole, Doyle was able to hold off Collins posting another fine 75 while Collins shot a solid 77 ( Don Cushman and Craig Stone also posted rounds in the 70"s ). Doyle and Collins have been Lake Chabot GC members and good friends for over 30 years and we want to applaud them both on their great rounds and for representing what Lake Chabot Golf Club is all about. Good friends, good fun and great competition!

 We had a fantastic turnout for the Manteca event this past Sunday. We had 42 players participate, the rain held off long enough for the last group to finish and everyone stuck around for food and beverage and had a great time. We also had 7 new members play in their first event and we welcome them to the club. We look forward to seeing you all at Mare Island. The results for Manteca are listed below.

LCGC Members, our first tournament of the year at Lake Chabot, The President's Cup, is coming up on March 15th. We are playing a new format this year. The tournament on the 15th will be an individual net stroke play event. After the tournament we will use the net scores to seed players for match play competition. The two players in each match will have 6-8 weeks to complete their match on their own schedule. Half the players will be eliminated at the completion of round one. This format will continue in subsequent rounds with the final two players playing for the President's Cup Championship on November 8, 2009. We will be posting a signup sheet at Chabot this weekend and we encourage all of you to sign up for this new event. We will post a bracket sheet at Chabot to chart the matches throughout the year and it will be a great way to play with some new members and maybe get matched up against an old rival. Hope to see you on the 15th, John.

The Results from The Reserve Tournament Feb. 22

 

Well, most of us survived the wind and rain to complete a very challenging round of golf at a great course. Some would say that playing in these extreme elements is part of the game and has a rich tradition. Others would say we're just fools. In any event, the results:

The hole was playing 140 yards and he used a 9 iron.

 

 

LCGC Members,

    We played both rounds of our NCGA Two Man Qualifier  these past couple

weekends with a good turnout, good weather and excellent  course conditions.

Congratulations go out to the winners, our President  Earle Chapman and our

treasurer Clarence 

Robinson. They shot 64 the first round and a great 61

the second round  for a 125 and won by a single stroke over the teams of 

Beles/Hassell and Doyle/Herrick. They will be moving on to the next round of 

qualifying at Foxtail GC May 21 with a chance to advance to the Championships

in  Monterey in June. Good Luck Earle and Clarence!!!

 

                                                                           

Our next tournament is the Laura McCaffery Memorial May  17th at Lake

Chabot with the first group going out at 7:00. This is a great  event named for

the wife, mom, grandmother of the McCaffery's, three generations  of longtime

members of Lake Chabot GC. This event is always popular and a lot of  fun

with an interesting format.

You play as a two person team with the first 6 holes played best ball, the 

next 6 holes alternate shot and the final 6 scramble.  The winning teams 

will receive prize money and the top team will have their names engraved on 

the newly refurbished Laura McCaffery Trophy permanently displayed in the

trophy  case at Lake Chabot. The deadline for signup is May 12, we hope to see

you all  out there for this great event!

 We are gearing up for the annual Family Day at Lake Chabot August 30, 2009.

 The junior golf programs are participating in a poster contest in which

they  will create a poster that we will use for our event this year. We will

vote on  the entries with prizes going to the creative winners. If you would

like to get  involved this year with helping us make this event the best

ever, we can use all  the help we can get. Just e-mail President Earle Chapman

 ready to help out.
